Dell Venue : 5" Tablet Screen + Android 2.2
:: Details & Review
The Dell Streak is an Android 2.2 touchscreen device that sits on the fence between a tablet and a smartphone. The Streak manages to bridge the gap between smartphones and tablets proving, once and for all, that you don't need to lug around both. The Dell Streak is powered by a1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that allows full-fledged multitasking capabilities and can handle multiple apps without the slightest hint of lag.
The Android smartphone comes with a 5 inch widescreen display that is optimised for mobile web, video and movies. The screen is protected by a reinforced, damage-resistant Gorilla Glass, that has been known to survive the most torturous of tests, including one where it was scribbled on with a sharp nail.
The Android Tablet sports dual cameras, a user-facing VGA digital camera for video calling and a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera with Dual LED flash. The device even excels at macro shots, something of a rarity in smartphone cameras. The Streak features a auto-macro camera mode that can capture subjects at super-close range with an amazingly tight depth of field.
Design
The Dell tablet sports three touch-sensitive back-lit buttons that allows you to swap back and forth within an app, access its menu, or return home without altering your PSP-like grip on the device. The Streak measures 152.9 x 79.1 x 10 mm and weighs 220 g, rendering it slightly hefty but the sleek contours and the curved edges makes it very much palm-friendly. The Dell Streak comes with proximity sensor for auto-turn off, an ambient light sensor for auto-brightness adjust and an accelerometer for auto UI orientation.
Battery and Storage
The Dell Streak comes with 512 MB ROM + 512 MB SDRAM. The 3G Tablet accepts up to 32 GB microSD card. The Dell Streak is powered by a 1530 mAh Lithium Ion battery and supports up to 10 hours of talk time depending on the amount of wireless usage.
Connectivity and Features
The Streak features the Dell Stage UI and offers multiple homescreen customisation and drag-and-drop functionality for almost all apps. The Stage interface utilises Tiles to gain access to multiple apps without switching screens. Clicking on any of the tiles brings up a Running Playlist that shows the last done activity on the app, allowing for rapid app switching. The Dell Streak supports Adobe Flash 10.1 for a full mobile web experience, the 3G Tablet can also double up as a portable WiFi hotspot.
The Dell Streak is a full-function 3G Tablet and supports integrated Facebook, Myspace and Orkut widgets and gives access to tons of apps through the Android Marketplace. There is real-time Facebook and Flickr support and lets you upload your photo or video online almost instantly.
The Dell Tablet offers 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and comes with Android Webkit browser. The Dell Streak features an enhanced A-GPS and e-compass functionality that helps you find the quickest route with real-time maps. And unlike dedicated GPS devices, the Streak spares you the hassle of having to upgrade your map every 2-3 months.
The Streak stands unrivaled when it comes to sheer functionality, it manages to cramp a smartphone, a brilliant camera, a satnav device and a web-savvy tablet into a sleek pocket-able package.
